Melissa t asked:

And also when can they sit by themselves? My son is 5 months and can kinda sit up, he does good trying to pull himself up with his stomach muscles!!! I want him to give me hugs too, that's soooo cute!!! 1st time mom!

my baby did all that (except the hugs) at 4 months, now at 7 months he hugs me but I mainly think he just wants me to pick him up..they give you slobbery kisses at 7 months too!

Babies learn to sit up around 6 months old but, some are later so don’t worry! It is a wonderful feeling the first time a baby hugs you!! It will happen sometime in the first year. I don’t remember exactly when but, you’ll know and it will feel great! Probably not for a few more months…

    Since they are conceived.

My son sat up at 6 months and at 7 months he was reaching his arms for me and giving me hugs. His twin sister sat up at 6 months and doesn’t reach out to me yet, but she does give hugs at 10 months. What I did for my kids to help them sit up better was sit them on the floor and put a boppy around them.

I have a 8 month old and she is a blast right now. Your fun
will begin soon. My daughter reaches out to me but she has not hugged me like I hug her yet but I have a feeling that is coming soon. I kiss her soooooo much I no longer wear lipstick something I used to do everyday. I guess I sort of smother my baby with so much love I probably get on her nerves hahahaha. Enjoy motherhood it gets better everyday.

My daughter was putting her hands up to be picked up at about 4 months. She was sitting unattended at 6 months, but took another month or two for her to be able to “sit-up” by herself. She is 9 1/2 months, and she is just starting to “cuddle” with me. Prior to this she was showing affection through play wrestling/rolling around on the floor together. Now she will actually sit quietly and give me a good cuddle…still not what I would consider a genuine “hug” though. She also started to give kisses at 9 months or so…a little hit or miss though…sometimes she just chews on my nose!

My daughter sat up at 5 months and by 6 months she is very steady at it and can sit for several minutes at a time. She started giving me kisses at 5 1/2 months which is so adorable. :) She’ll put her hands on each side of my face and open her mouth and rub it on my lips…. very drooly kisses!!! I’m not sure about hugs. I never really hug her, just hold her and kiss all over her. Hugs are a little harder since her arms are so short LOL. She’s bigger now, but I’m such a kisser! I just kiss kiss kiss her until she starts to whine hehehe!
Now, about the reaching out part… she is starting that at 6 months old. She sits in her exersaucer and when she wants me she starts to fuss, so I come over to her and she starts to flap her arms like little wings. It’s not exactly or literally reaching out her arms, but it’s the equivalent. :)

Congrats on being a first timer!
