Advice For Great Wedding Photographs

If I am requested to take photos of the bride getting ready:

Choose a dressing area with lots of natural light and roomy if possible.

Decorate the bride dressing area.

Have the bridesmaids clean up “junk” or stuff that’s not wedding related but don’t make it too clean and neat. Take out the empty boxes and bags. Cover ugly furniture with plain drape cloth.

No window? Maybe Christmas light or candles?

Direct light through the window needs to be diffused with curtains, drape or gauze.

Light from a North facing window is a photographer’s dream.

Feel free to tell us to step out at any time. If no one says anything, we will assume it is ok to stay.

I like to do natural photos. It tends to make them more unique if you come up with your own ideas. If you have an idea please throw it in even if you think it sounds silly or impossible to do. One idea sometimes evolves into more ideas.

You don’t always have to look at the photographer. The goal is to make you look like you don’t even know you’re being photographed. I will tell you roughly where to stand and you can play, hug, kiss and dance around. This is your day, have fun and make the most of it!

When I ask you to kiss, do it very slowly and give a lot of pause at the moment just before the lips touch. About an inch. That is the most romantic part of the kiss. In addition, when you kiss, don’t pucker your lips out. Just relax your face and allow your mouth to stay slightly opened. Kiss straight on without tilting your head so that we can see both of your profiles in the photo. On playful images it’s ok to smile. Romantic photos need to be more serious. Relax your face and it will look like you are very much in love.

Your hands are important and tell a lot about how you are feeling. So be aware and relax your hands into natural positions. Put them on your partner in ways they feel comfortable.

When walking, try to occasionally lean in for a (take your time) kiss.

I will always have an assistant with me. Sometimes couples and wedding parties don’t know where to look when 2 photographers are shooting. Always look at the primary photographer unless asked to do otherwise. The other photographer is shooting from the side or in between shots of the primary photographer in order to get candid shots. Some of the best photos are the ones taken in between the primary photographer’s shots.

Don’t be camera shy. The best photos are of people’s faces and their expressions. If you see us posing for a shot, don’t quickly turn your head and shy away. This is a day you don’t want to be modest. Ham it up and have fun. You will appreciate it later when you reflect back on your special day by looking at awesome photos.

Valentine’s Day is considered the most romantic day of the year for most couples. Some couples just relish the idea of a special day set aside just to celebrate the beauty of love. Other couples are pessimistic and believe it is only a holiday made up for businesses such as jewelers, card makers, florists, and candy makers to make a major haul. No matter how you look at Valentine’s Day, this is a day to give your loved one a special gift. The gift can be extravagant or it can be a small handmade gift from the heart. Either way it can be a tough decision about what type of gift to give.

The most common of all Valentine’s Day gifts is the Valentine’s Card. It is certainly not the most expensive, however, it can be the most appreciated. The trick is to find the card that best expresses your true feelings for your loved one. You may be lucky and find a card already printed with your exact sentiments or you may need to get a blank card to write your own expression of love.

Today there are many computer programs you can use to make your own card along with personalized photos etc. You could also add special touches to a homemade or store bought card by attaching photos, special mementos from the relationship such as, ticket stubs from concerts or movies, or even add some of the little candy hearts with romantic sayings printed on them, etc.

The very common Valentine’s gift would be to send or take flowers to your loved one. Typically florists double or triple their normal prices several days before and after Valentine’s Day to take advantage of the millions of orders. A dozen red roses would be the classic gift but you may also send any other flower or arrangement you know your intended would appreciate.

Many people prefer other flowers such as gladiolas, bird of paradise, tulips, etc. over roses. A great accompaniment to flowers is a box of candy, or a bottle of wine or champagne. Just take the candy and/or bottle to the florist and they will deliver it along with the flowers. Most florists also have stuffed animals they can deliver with the flowers.

One of the more extravagant of the gifts would be to take your loved one on a romantic getaway. Whether for just one night or for a whole week, a getaway gift would be a big hit. Some really nice getaways can be to a local hotel with a special dinner or a flight to a Caribbean island where you can arrange a romantic sunset dinner on the beach. There are many Caribbean resorts specializing in romantic vacations for couples only. If you really want to be extravagant charter your own private jet to the island. You can be served a gourmet meal on board the flight and have a romantic dessert of strawberries and champagne.

If you want to get more serious and give a gift of the true meaning of your feelings you can always go the jewelry way. Just make sure you are serious about your feelings and really want to move in this direction. Diamonds are certainly not a gift to give in a casual relationship. You could always give a gold chain or some beautiful earrings if you are not ready for “the diamond”. One of the most important things about giving jewelry to a woman is to take the time to notice what type of jewelry she already wears. This way you will know what type of jewelry and what colors she prefers. Some women prefer silver jewelry over gold and vice versa. You want to give her something she will be able to wear often.

These are just a few ideas for Valentine’s gifts and they certainly are not the only ones. Any gift your loved one would appreciate would be appropriate. Especially appropriate if you have received hints about what she or he wants. Even a toaster would be appreciated if that’s what they truly wanted and needed. You need to take into consideration what your loved one will truly appreciate, you don’t want to just get anything you can find at the last moment. Take some time to plan for your gift, you both will appreciate it.

As I have mentioned above, you have to be generous on showing how precious she is.  Thoughtfulness is a way of showing your girl that she is of importance.  Make her a cup of coffee and some french toasts in the morning.  Secretly slip a note saying how beautiful she looks on her new hair in her organizer.  Things like these will surely make her love you more.

Not being forgetful of your anniversaries is a winning move. Significant dates are very important to women.  Forgetting your anniversary, or the date of your one hundredth day, or even the first time you saw a movie together is a mortal sin.  Committing this will cost you more than a dozen of red roses, balloons, a beautiful necklace and a pair of Jimmy Choo’s.  So, better mark your calendar, buy her something nice and save your bank account.

Cuddle her. Having constant physical contact is her assurance that she is attractive and wanted.  Remember that no matter how strong your girl is, she still finds the feel of insecurity whenever you start to kiss her less often.  This will make her feel less beautiful and eventually lead to paranoia.  You don’t want her to think that you are kissing someone else already.  It will be better to keep her secured with your hugs and kisses.

Talk to her. Share the things that are happening to you when the two of you are not with each other’s arms.  Tell her your ideas.  Tell her your opinions.  Do not hesitate to confide with her – even your fears and aspirations.  This will make you look human to her.  And by, you, telling your secrets and all else to her will make her feel that she is very important to you since you share things that are very personal to you with her.  Do not be afraid that you might end up looking weak to her eyes.  Remember that women are sensitive creatures.  They fall for men who are as sensitive as they are.

Take care of yourself. Make sure that you always look good.  Do not forget to trim your hair.  Always clean those nails.  Make it a habit to consult your favorite magazine about the latest style that will suit you.  These will make her love you more as you look more gorgeous as time goes by.  You should never neglect yourself simply because you are already taken.  You have to show her that you are a good catch and as valuable as she is.

Consult her. Asking for her opinion about things will also make her fall for you more.  Giving her the idea that you value her opinion will make her feel that she is someone you see as a partner not just a booty call or someone who makes your bed in the morning.

All these may sound demanding but if you will scrutinize these tips, you will find out that these are just simple things that you can easily do.  They are feasible and worth your time.

Do you know that there’s truth in the saying, “The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach?” Food just has the ability to lighten up a person’s mood even for just a while, most especially if it was cooked deliciously and from the heart. You may not completely remove all the angst and anxiety that he could be feeling, but you can help him get rid of it for a few hours. Eating, but only healthy food, can also help him relax, which will allow him to feel better about himself and even on the situation.

4. Send a virtual candle. A candle can be a symbol of hope, peace, and inner strength—values that your husband definitely needs to affirm at a families trying time.  There are a number of virtual candle sites where you can light a candle with your initials and a message then send an email link to your friend.   They can then go and see the candle you lit for them and read the note.  The prettiest and best presented on the internet in my opinion is the free one at The Center for Healing Arts web site.  You can deliver these candles to his mailbox any time, so he knows you are behind him.  It’s the type of inspiration a man likes.

5. Get him to talk. Men are typically more secretive than women, so you really can’t expect him to talk things over with you immediately. Nevertheless, you can always encourage him to discuss what’s troubling him with either you or his closest friends, particularly pointing out the benefits of doing so. And if he talks to you, make sure that you listen with out judgement.
