The Chapel

This is the shrine mentioned in my previous post. Built by the Grimshore family in memory of Miss Dolores de Bergrin, a Spanish aristocrat who was the teacher at the estate school and who died on a visit to Lourdes.

When composing the shot I noticed that the door to the shrine was slightly ajar and on closer inspection it was completely unlocked. I pushed the hobbit sized wooden door and it swung inwards with a loud eerie creek.

Peering round I expected to see bare stone walls and an empty room. Instead, illuminated by shafts of light from two thin slits in the wall, was a full blown alter, candles, crucifix and painting of the Virgin Mary. Creepier still were all the childrens toys and hand drawn pictures left scattered around.

Did I bravely venture further inside to have a better look? Did I balls! The whole setup was a bit too "Blair Witch" for my liking.
