Whatever it is, we sure as hell feel it, illusion or not.
There is nothing philosophical about this, it is religion/spiritual
True love isn’t an illusion, infatuation is an illusion. You could blame the pleasure of sex on the survival and reproduction of humanity but not love.
i’d like to think of it as a gift
I guess it depends, are emotions “illusions?” What about hate, anger, sadness?
Creator or not, I think lust would be more than adequate to propogate the species. Love probably gets in the way more than anything else. It leads to monogamy, which tends to limit sex, and certainly limits the sexual combinations that make a healthy and vibrant gene pool.
Extinction is the illusion.

frequencies that turn off and on,
as the quarks (energy bits ) recycle.

We rarely have anything in common, we have completely different instincts and functions in the life cycle, but for some reason- whatever I lack, my partner makes up for it. Go fig.
Well at least it serves a useful function. From an evolutionary standpoint it makes perfect sense. It’s the same reason sex feels so good: those who don’t enjoy sex or feel love are much less likely to reproduce.
Though if you believe in a creator, you should also ask him/her/it/them why we were “programmed” with deleterious emotions like hate, violence, lying, arrogance, etc.
I don’t think it is an illusion, because if it were, then so would be every other emotion we have. Unless all of our emotions are illusions as well..hmmm. What would be the purpose of the illusion of hate, or jealousy, or envy, or excitement. Aren’t they all emotional responses to some other type of stimuli?
The love we as humans THINK we feel for other people is like a glass of sping water compared to real love which is like a cup of pure columbian dark french roast with four creamers, and two sugars!
Love to humans has all kinds of conditions because we as humans can’t keep our pants up, or keep our gossip to ourselves, or stop mistrusting or just plain quit dealing with horrible habits that we choose to not break, ect. Real love, true love has no conditions and that is ethereal and out of worldly. Once you feel it, it is like being inside bliss… The only way you can experience it is to experience it with someone who has never lived among humans. Or, you can feel it within your self…(and that takes lots of self trust…)
All emotions we feel as humans are tainted because we are often so mean and arrogant toward eachother that we are usually afraid (from childhood) to show our emotions for fear of being riddiculed or mocked.
Don’t think so. Violence & rape can propel the species foward just as good sex can, regardless of love. If love was an illusion, Science wouldn’t be able to find so many changes in the body. When love is present you have more endorphines, it’s reportedly easier to conceive, people live longer & so on. Kindness doesn’t require love but that could counter hate & could be programmed. Good Question.
No, love is not necessary for us to reproduce cause plain hornyness and lack of self control can populate the world alone. Love was made so lovers could develop an attachment to each other allowing them to build a good family with some type of structure.

Love is a desire for something you do not have and would like to have forever.
I don’t believe in a creator, so I think love is not an illusion, but a feeling, which one person/animal feels for another person/animals. It is what bonds us together, not just helping us reproduce and survive, but it too serves a higher purpose, It gives us something to live for.
Love isn’t always a sexual thing.
The love between a Grand-father & his son is different (I hope) than the love between the Grand-father & his wife (the Grand-mother).
Love usually is a passion to lead us to things greater than ourselves. Childreen are a product of love … another product of love is music that comes from the soul. Like when an artist has such passion for the timing and harmony that they create this from the love within them.
Love often is tarnished and destroyed when we use it’s power’s for our own selfish purposes. Most of the time love is able to weather our selfishnes; but other times our will and desire can destroy love. This destroying can not only hurt us, our family, friends, but generations to follow us. Love should always be reviewed to ensure that we are aiming to let it benefit the greater than the few.
Everything is an illusion….including the concept of love. We (human beings) like to think it’s real, because we can’t stand to live with the alternative.
What we observe as reality is largely based on what we believe. And what we believe is largely based on what we feel, which is in turn based on our thoughts, which is based on what we believe. There’s a circular logic in operation here.
When we clear our emotions from our thoughts and see the world clearly, and in so doing, put ourselves in a space where we have a choice about what we believe, who we are being as individuals, and about what we desire, then we can create something real. It becomes real because it is our own creation and not forced on us by pop-culture circumstances (our peers, TV, magazines, etc.). It leads to freedom. And freedom leads back to the need to freely share ourselves with others, to be together, to really care. What we are left with is Love.
Let me ask you a question….
If you were all alone in this world, and you knew you were dying, what would you do? What would you look for?
You’d look for the people you loved.
And you wouldn’t give a damn about anything else.
THAT, is what love is.
But, like anything else, you have to accept it to understand it.
And alot of people just havent felt it yet.
They consider love and lust the same thing, and they’re not.
Lust is a craving. The wanting to get laid.
And love……. (how do you say it without sounding corny….)
Love, is an embrace. Its an acceptance.
It’s a building of peaceful understanding, and a saftey thats cool because its warm.
Saying love is only good for reproduction is like saying knowledge is only good for writing books.
There’s so much more depth and purpose to it then just the basic effect.
It’s been the inspiration for thousands of great minds, it’s started wars, saved lives, made lives, and music, and movies, and more people happy and sad then anything else in the world….. ever.
There’s alot of different kinds of love, but, like I said….
If you were dying, they’d be all you cared about, because they’d be what you felt the strongest about.
So, to answer your question….. it depends on what you want..
You only find what you’re willing to feel, regardless of what results from it.
Love is not an illusion and the reproduction of humanity is not dependent on it.
But humanity itself is dependant on Love.
My body will not allow me to procreate but I love nevertheless. I show it by caring, attention, and displays of affection like warm embraces. Even animals know and yearn for affection.
